Our hospital, Hershey Medical Center, is a 610 bed Academic Medical Center with a variety of complex services, including a comprehensive cancer center, cardiovascular and heart transplant center, state of the art Women's Health and Neonatal care, nationally ranked pediatric services and Level I Pediatric and Adult Trauma programs.
Within the Department of Pathology, our laboratory team falls into two sections, Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology. Our Clinical Pathology Team is comprised of the Automated Testing Laboratory, Phlebotomy, Special Hematology, Blood Bank, Hematopoietic Cell Therapy, Microbiology and Virology, while our Anatomic Pathology Team includes Cytology, Decedent Care, Histology, Histocompatibility and Molecular Diagnostics. Together, we perform over 8.7 million tests annually that are critical for an accurate diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care for our patients.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for the performance of various histological procedures, techniques and processes utilized in the Histology and/or Dermatopathology Laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Prepare tissue sections for light microscopy to include processing, embedding, sectioning, routine staining (H & E) and labeling.
Perform special stains as requested by Pathologist.
Perform procedures such as immunofluorescence and decalcifications on paraffin and frozen sections.
Prepare and maintain a wide variety of stains and other chemical reagents for specialized and complex procedures as requested.
Maintain QA/QC logs accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment as necessary including processors, stainers, coverslipper water baths and microtomes.
Participate in rotating call schedule as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Associate degree in chemical, physical, biological science, medical laboratory science or equivalent education orÂ
Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program or high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of clinical work experience in an accredited histopathology laboratory
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Certification/Certification eligible as HT/HTL (ASCP) or equivalent
Bachelors Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, medical laboratory science or equivalent education
