MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center has an excellent part-time opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner to join the MercyOne Emergency Department located in Mason City, Iowa.
The selected candidate will provide quality patient care in the emergency setting. The schedule for this part-time (0.6 FTE) opportunity is two shifts per week, 1:00 pm - 1:00 am.
Essential functions for this opportunity include:
Demonstrates customer service to others as a number one priority and accomplishes this by integrating Service Excellence into all aspects of the workday, taking responsibility for service recovery and working for outcomes that delight the customer.
Supports change in speech and actions by freely utilizing talents to implement change, by being a team player and by modeling the Standards of Behavior.
Evaluates any patient of the practice to elicit medical history and provide a physical exam.
Assesses, diagnoses, and treats medical problems.
Provides appropriate and accurate documentation and/or dictation for all patient encounters.
Orders appropriate laboratory, radiologic, and related studies, procedures or therapies as appropriate to the patient in collaboration with the emergency department physicians.
Performs therapeutic procedures inclusive, but not limited to, injections, immunizations, intravenous infusions, suturing, and gynecological exams.
Manages common medical problems and side effects associated with treatment therapies.
Provides patient education and counseling regarding mental and physical health.
Assists the assigned emergency physician(s) in the delivery of services to patients requiring continuing care in home, nursing facility or hospital settings.
Refers patients to appropriate specialists.
Maintains awareness of community services, agencies, resources and health facilities.
Provides immediate evaluation, treatment and institution of procedures essential to providing appropriate response to emergency medical problems.
Assists in the evaluation and acquisition of new equipment.
Admits patients to hospital or health care facility in collaboration with physician.
Directs other medical personnel in the provision and execution of patient care.
Participates in the orientation of new employees and students.
Promotes and maintains positive working relationships in a collegial manner with co-workers, medical staff and personnel of other departments and demonstrates effective communication skills.
Assists others needing help as necessary and displays flexibility in job responsibilities.
Participates in achieving the department budget by managing own work hours, flexing and staffing to volumes, keeping OT to a minimum, utilizing supplies appropriately and by continually applying process improvement techniques to eliminate waste in workflows.
Participates in the application of CQI principles and in the departments Quality Management Plan by assisting in development and data collection. Participates in the departments Gallup Impact Planning.
Attends and participates in department staff and committee meetings.
Participates in peer evaluations and self -evaluation and goal setting.
Communicates with and perform duties following MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center Service Excellence Standards of Behavior.
Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. (if applicable)
Communicates with and performs duties following MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center Guiding Behaviors.
Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.

Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Medical Director, Emergency Department and Director of Emergency Services.
Minimum qualifications include graduation from a Master of Nursing program; current Iowa NP license; current Iowa controlled substance; and current Federal DEA license.
