The Cincinnati VAMC is an active teaching hospital that is affiliated with and in walking distance to the University of Cincinnati (UC). The selected candidates will manage the full range of cardiovascular diseases in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Physician duties in the Outpatient clinic will include personally evaluating new cardiology consults and follow up patients, as well as supervising Cardiovascular (CV) Disease fellows and mid-level providers. The Cardiologist will be assigned to the inpatient Cardiology consult service and will be expected to supervise and teach a team consisting of CV Disease fellows, Internal Medicine residents and UC medical students. The Cardiology Consult Team is consulted by all Medical Center teams/units, including the MICU/SICU and must be able to manage both ward and intensive care unit level patients. The Cardiologist will be expected to cover inpatient overnight call during the week when assigned to the consult service and will cover approximately 1 weekend per month, which includes making rounds on the consult service patients with the CV Disease fellow and taking overnight call. The Cardiologist read ECGs, exercise and pharmacologic stress tests, transthoracic echocardiograms and ambulatory cardiac monitors. He/she may be asked to supervise stress tests when the Stress Lab NP is not available. The Cardiologist will have significant interaction with a variety of trainees, including CV Disease fellows, Internal Medicine residents and UC medical students and must be eligible for a University of Cincinnati faculty appointment. Responsibilities:\nThe Cardiologist will participate in the cardiovascular care of both inpatients and outpatients, which includes the procedures listed above. He/she will be actively involved in the teaching and supervision of fellows, residents and students, which may include providing didactic educational sessions. He/she will apply American Cardiology of Cardiology/American Heart Association and VA guidelines to the management of cardiovascular diseases. A successful candidate must qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of Cincinnati. The selected physician will be: Required to maintain BLS certification and ACLS.
