The work of the Nursing Assistant is to provide and support direct patient care. This position is in the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Service Line in the Community Living Center. The Community Living Center is a 38 bed unit that specializes in caring for veterans in need of transitional care. This includes but is not limited to caring for veterans in need of wound care, placement, radiation, chemotherapy, rehabilitation, antibiotic therapy, and hospice care. YOU MUST SUBMIT ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO RECEIVE CONSIDERATION. Duties include, but are not limited to: Reports changes in patient's condition to the registered nurse, as well as the Veteran's acceptance and response to nursing care. Observes the general appearance and condition of skin and report's findings to the registered nurse. Gives individual care and attention to acutely and chronically ill Veterans. Assists with transfers, ambulation and all activities of daily living. After having instruction, assembles, operates and cares for special equipment used for resident care. Performs oral suctioning. Observes flow of IV fluids and reports findings to a nurse. Performs colostomy care. Takes and records blood glucose monitoring and reports findings to nurse. Completes assignment promptly and works steadily in an organized manner. Completes other tasks as assigned by the LPN or RN. Provides 1:1 constant observer coverage. Obtains and records temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, height, weight and I&O. Ensures correct placement of O2 via nasal cannula/mask. Exchanges oxygen tanks without adjusting oxygen LPM. Transports Veterans to tests and procedures as directed. Maintains and stocks supplies on the unit as directed. Demonstrates skills, knowledge and ability to use and reprocess reusable medical equipment appropriate to assigned duties. Work Schedule: Full-time; Days/PMs, 0600-1430, 1530-MID.
