The Deputy Associate Chief Nurse for Long Term Care functions as an expert clinician in the adult/geriatric specialty of nursing practice within medical/surgical and long-term care environments. The Deputy ACN manifests a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of complex responses of adult and geriatric Veteran's and families to actual or potential health problems. The Deputy ACN promotes the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness and provision of comfort. He/she serves as consultant, providing expert knowledge and skill in the adult/geriatric specialty to other nurses, and the multidisciplinary health care team. The Deputy ACN is responsible administratively to the Associate Chief Nurse for Extended Care and functions collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team within and across systems to advance the practice of nursing and improve patient outcomes. The Nurse Executive has oversight for nursing practice. The Deputy ACN will oversee the following programs and supervise the staff that fall within these programs; Restorative Program, Wound Care Program and Resident Assessment Program. The Deputy ACN will work closely with the ACN for Long Term Care to ensure program goals and positive patient outcomes are achieved throughout the community living center and aligned service lines and acts on behalf of the ACN when required. The Deputy ACN will participate in facility and VISN level committees as directed by their supervisor. The Deputy ACN facilitates and promotes Shared Governance throughout nursing services, collaborating with front line staff, Nurse Managers and Nursing Leadership to implement the model of practice. The Deputy ACN works closely with the Clinical Nurse Educators and Education Department staff to ensure facility training and education objectives are met. Work Schedule: 0730 - 1600 or 0800 - 1630, weekend coverage may be required as well as off shift rotations as needed. Telework: May be available at the discretion of the supervisor.
