This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provides anesthetic care to patients under a scope of practice found in VA Handbook 1123 under provision of anesthesia care. Care includes preanesthetic evaluation, peri-operative anesthetic administration, and post-operative management. Specific practice settings are in Acute Medical & Surgical inpatient and outpatient setting. The practice of each CRNA is based on knowledge, experience and research and has a direct impact of patient outcome. SCOPE OF PRACTICE 1. The CRNA is directly responsible and accountable to the supervising anesthesiologist or surgeon. The CRNA is responsible for the provision of direct care, assessing monitors, providing IV sedation, conduction anesthesia or general anesthesia for patients. Performs pre-operative evaluation for surgical patients. Participates in a team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments, anticipate patient care needs, prevent avoidable complications, and achieve optimal patient conditions and outcomes. The CRNA acts in adherence of nursing care in accordance with ethical principles and functions within the scope of practice. 2. Responsibilities and accountabilities include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served in the assigned area(s) of practice. This knowledge includes undertaking changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the Adult and Geriatric population. 3. The CRNA is also responsible and accountable for maintaining BIS and ACLS training and for performing activities that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements outlined in the nine dimensions: a. In addition, the CRNA is accountable and responsible for possessing the knowledge and skills to: a. Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers b. Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written and/or verbal patient/employee information c. Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment and adherence to safety practices. d. Conform with all medical center and service/service line safety policies, procedures and protocols to avoid injury and/or illnesses to self and others. Employee prepares all reports and documentation pertaining to employee injuries within established time frames utilizing the ASISTS Program, Employee identifies and reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel to ensure a safe environment for all patients, medical center personnel and visitors. Employee practices safe working habits to avoid damage to government equipment building structures and motor vehicles. Supervisory Controls Direct supervision is by the Anesthesiologist on duty for that day. If unavailable, such as at night or on weekends, supervision may be by the Attending Surgeon in the Operating Room. Administrative supervision by the Chief CRNA with secondary supervision by the Chief Anesthesiologist and Chief of Surgery. Customer Service Requirement Incumbent must meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions; consistently communicate and treat customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner; provide customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures; and handle conflict and problems in dealing with customers constructively and appropriately. Work Schedule: A variety of work schedules are available; work schedule will be determined upon selection. NOTE: May be expected to work rotating weekends and holidays. Pay Schedule: The salary range listed in this announcement is a Base-Line Salary for a full-time work schedule. Starting salary will be set based on locality (which may include a special pay rate depending upon location), as well as Full Time, Part Time or Intermittent employment.
