You Will Be Responsible For:
Oversees all aspects of TransLife's organ and tissue donation authorization programs in each of the over 55 hospitals within all Advent Health and non-Advent Health hospitals in the following counties: Brevard, Flagler, Indian River, Lake, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia.
Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Clinical Operations and the Assistant Director of Hospital and Professional Relations to assure best requesting practices are implemented in all cases.
Collaborates with the family services coordinators to assure a customized plan to provide comfort, support and timely information to the donor's next-of-kin is followed per next-of-kin's wishes.
Supports first person authorization and can navigate the process of facilitating donation even when next-of-kin does not support the donor's wishes.
Develops professional relationships with hospital Pastoral Care, Social Work and other family care specialties regarding the donation referral and approach process.
Collaborates with the training manager to develop a training curriculum for new family services and clinical staff; ensure consistency of practice among staff members; and identify organ and tissue donation authorizations that can serve as teaching opportunities to improve donation authorization rates. Develops and implements authorization training programs/workshops for OPC and DA staff with scenario-based skills practice. Assesses performance and provides feedback to increase skills.
Participates in national conferences and training programs to keep abreast of best practice skills in obtaining donation authorization.
Five years counseling or crisis intervention experience
Five years of experience working in a family services capacity at a Federally designated organ procurement organization
2 years of management experience
Five years of previous hospital experience in a trauma or critical care setting, or
Five years of experience with families making end-of-life decisions, or
Five years of pastoral or hospice care experience, or
Five years of bereavement counseling experience, or
Two years of teaching/coaching experience, or
Two years of management experience
The Sr. Manager - Donor Family Services directs all aspects of OurLegacy's organ and tissue donor family services operation in each of the following hospitals within the Advent Health system: Altamonte, Apopka, Celebration, Daytona Beach, Deland, East Orlando, Fish Memorial, Kissimmee, Palm Coast, Orlando, Waterman and Winter Park. Additionally, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has designated OurLegacy to provide organ and tissue donation services to all non-Advent Health hospitals in the following counties; Brevard, Flagler, Indian River, Lake, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia. Responsible for the delivery of effective donation family services in 55 hospitals in the OurLegacy service area.
Leads OurLegacy's donor family care program. Must use existing knowledge of organ and tissue donation processes; crisis intervention, grief counseling, relationship building, negotiation, death and dying, and spiritual care to ensure that all organ and tissue donor families receive the support needed so organ and tissue donation can be facilitated in all cases. Mastery of OurLegacy policies; State of Florida laws; and federal laws, regulations, policies and standards governing organ and tissue donation and ensure OurLegacy's compliance with same.
Provides 24-hour/7-day accountability for, and has oversight of, all donation authorization conversations in all 55 hospitals in the OurLegacy donation service area regardless of the job description of the on-call requester. Works daily with the Assistant Director of Clinical Operations to determine the appropriate person and manner to conduct each donation authorization. When there are gaps in call coverage the (position title to be determined) will performs duties as needed. Develops, manages and leads staff and processes that are dedicated to compassionate organ and tissue donor family care, which includes pre and post authorization care of the donors and families. Evaluates organ and tissue donation authorization rates within the designated service area and makes recommendations, revises and develops systems to improve those rates as needed. Mastery of organ and tissue donation approach and authorization national best practices and ensures they are implemented in each case.
Responsible for OurLegacy's Donation After-Care Program which exists to provide continued support and resources to donor families after donation. Contributes to OurLegacy staff care, including but not be limited to, staff self-care and other programs designed to help staff excel in a stressful environment.
